Unlike nitrogen or potassium, calcium moves through the plant almost exclusively in the xylem, carried passively by the water-transpiration stream. It has essentially no ability to relocate from older tissue to younger, actively growing tissue once it has been deposited — which is the root cause of nearly every calcium-related disorder.
Why fruit is the most vulnerable tissue
Fruit transpires far less than leaves, so it receives a proportionally smaller share of the calcium moving through the xylem stream even when overall soil calcium supply is adequate. This is why blossom end rot in tomato and bitter pit in apple can occur even in soils that test well for calcium — the problem is delivery, not availability.
Why solubility and mobility are everything
Standard calcium sources like gypsum or calcium nitrate depend entirely on a strong, consistent transpiration stream to reach the fruit — which fails precisely during the hot, high-transpiration-demand periods when fruit calcium needs are highest and the plant is under water stress.
How NEKAY CALCIUM addresses this
NEKAY CALCIUM works around that bottleneck rather than fighting it. At 35% CaO in a highly soluble form it can be applied directly to the fruit or growing point as a foliar spray, putting calcium where it is needed instead of hoping the xylem delivers it there. The 12% nitrogen matters too: nitrogen is drawn hardest by the same actively growing tissue that needs calcium most, so the two move on the same demand.
